In an article headed Champagne counts on White House contact for support, posted on 13 March 2003, the following points need clarification.
In the sentence ‘The CIVC (Comite Interprofessionel du Vin de Champagne), and other European wine and food trade bodies are engaged in complex and delicate negotiations with US producers..’ it should be made clear that the CIVC is not engaged directly in negotiations with US producers but is lobbying EU negotiators, with some other European wine regions, to ensure the phasing out of misleading use of semi-generic names such as Champagne.
Secondly the article quotes Daniel Lorson as saying ‘proposals have to be voted by Congress – by 31 December 2003’. It has been brought to the attention of decanter.com that this in fact should refer to an
