1987 vintage guide for Red Rhone

drink soon

Reds from Chateauneuf were light and should have been drunk by now; the vintage was excellent in Cote Rotie

Weather Conditions

After a satisfactory flowering in the north, the summer that followed was mostly wet. Fortunately dry weather returned in September, and the grapes ripened quite successfully. Although the rain marred the reputation of the vintage, it was excellent in Côte Rotie, where picking began on 8 October, a week after Hermitage. The south was less fortunate, as the damp summer provoked disease, insect infestation, and rot.

Best Appellations

Reds from Châteauneuf were light and should have been drunk.

(Light wines from Condrieu)

Best Producers

Few wines of note, and all should have been drunk up by now. Jaboulet released no Hermitage La Chapelle at all.
