Tasting: Western Australia Chardonnay

Not golden yellow, but not far off; perhaps the most deeply coloured wine of the tasting (which isn’t saying much — deep colours are OUT!). Lushly grainy, rich characters on the nose — crushed biscuit mingling with pollen and honey. Characterful and attractive, though the first bottle was oxidised and the second fades a little as it sits in the glass. On the palate, the wine is full, buxom, rich, vivid and long, with mellow, harmonious and enticing flavours of honey, of wax and of crushed fennel seeds. Against the zeitgeist, but I’m very glad that someone is still making wine like this.

Tasting: Western Australia Chardonnay

Deep intense nose of toasted brioche, then on the palate an intense roasted pineapple and creamy finish. High acidity still here, the alcohol is still showing through.

Very oxidative style, long and rich but with no much fruit.
