Decanter will return to the Ritz-Carlton in Pudong on 28 November for its second edition of the Decanter Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter.
The first Decanter Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter was described as ‘the best wine show of the year in China’ and drew plaudits from visitors and exhibitors alike.
News of the second edition was announced today (15 July) at a press conference in Shanghai and hosted by Decanter’s publishing director, Sarah Kemp.
This year’s event will again feature 100 of the world’s greatest wineries and promises to be the highlight of any Chinese fine wine lover’s year. Visitors can meet renowned producers and taste hundreds of the world’s finest wines during the grand tasting.
There will also be 10 tutored masterclasses, including a vertical tasting of Château Mouton Rothschild with the Bordeaux first growth estate’s managing director, Philippe Dhalluin.
To add to the excitement, a Barolo masterclass will be led by Italian wine and Decanter contributor Ian D’Agata, author of Native Wine Grapes of Italy. Other masterclasses will include:
- Famed Rioja producer La Rioja Alta, S.A.
- Top Rhône producer Maison M. Chapoutier
- Ornellaia, one of Tuscany’s most collectable wines
- Old vintages of the celebrated Chateau Musar from Lebanon
- Eduardo Chadwick with Chilean star Seña
- Jean-Charles Cazes with Château Lynch-Bages
Husband and wife rivals Alexander van Beek and Véronique Sanders with Château Giscours and Haut-Bailly in Bordeaux respectively will be pouring wines from double-magnums.
Chinese wine authority Li Demei will be hosting a tasting of top wines from the Decanter World Wine Awards and Decanter Asia Wine Awards.
More top producers attending this year’s event include Châteaux Montrose and Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande from Bordeaux, Inniskillin from Canada, Champagne Bollinger and Laurent-Perrier, Craggy Range from New Zealand, O. Fournier from Argentina, Marqués de Murrieta from Spain and Robert Mondavi from the USA.
This unique event will give fine wine lovers unrivalled access to the legendary names of wine, and an opportunity to talk to the people behind the label, as well as tasting and discovering old and recent vintages.
Sarah Kemp, Decanter’s publishing director, said, ‘We are thrilled to return to Shanghai with our selection of the greatest wineries of today. Decanter takes pride in being able to offer the wine lovers of China a day that any wine lover anywhere in the world would envy.’
