DWWA judge profile: Christophe Richelet

Christophe Richelet is a judge at the at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA)

Christophe Richelet profile:

Christophe Richelet is sales manager for Dynamic Vines.  He trained as a sommelier in his native Montréal, Canada, and moved to London seven years ago after working one year in Boston, USA, at Ken Oringer’s Clio restaurant.

After a few years exploring the diverse hospitality scene in London, he felt it was time to move on to another sector of the wine trade, but a phone call from Nuno Mendes changed that. Indeed, he was offered the position of head sommelier at his Michelin-starred Viajante, an opportunity and a challenge he could not pass up. One of his initial mandates was to expand the Portuguese wine category on the wine list. A few months later, the offering had gone from three listings to fifty, all carefully chosen wines from small, independent producers. The list received the Restaurant Award from the Association of Portuguese Wine Importers.

From 2014, he became a freelance sommelier and took on, among other clients, Nuno Mendes’ Taberna do Mercado. In 2015, he won Wines of Portugal’s Sommelier Quest. Yet, there is still a lot to discover!

2016 is Christophe Richelet first year as a judge for the DWWA.
