González Byass buys Rías Baixas winery

González Byass has acquired one of the top wineries in the DO Rías Baixas in Galicia, Bodegas Pazos de Lusco.

Bodegas Pazos de Lusco is the first Rías Baixas winery for the González Byass portfolio, joining others owned by the company in key Spanish regions, including Rioja, Rueda, Jerez, Cava and Penedès.

‘With this acquisition, González Byass strengthens its portfolio and its position of leadership in quality wine production,’ said the company.

Rías Baixas is one of the most recognised white wine producing Spanish DOs globally.’ A fee for the deal was not disclosed.

Wines from Bodegas Pazos de Lusco include the Albariños Lusco – which was awarded a commended medal for the 2013 vintage in the 2015 Decanter World Wine Awards – and Pazao Pineiro.

Bodegas Pazos de Lusco is located in Salvaterra do Mino and the vineyard uses the traditional pergola method, making premium Spanish white wines.

The winery also includes a sixteenth century manor house, chapel, stables and lodge.

Other wineries owned by González Byass include Tio Pepe, Finca Constancia and Vinas del Vero. As well as producing Spanish wine and Sherry, the company also sells spirits.
