Château Climens to begin wine tours

Château Climens in Barsac has said it is opening its doors to visitors, with a new series of tastings available from September.

Château Climens opens doors for tastings and tours

From €15, visitors can explore the Climens vineyard and cellar, and also have a tasting, said the 1er Cru Classé château located in the Barsac appellation.

More Bordeaux châteaux are opening their doors to visitors, as wine tourism becomes increasingly important for estates.

Climens, which is one of the few top estates in Bordeaux that is farmed biodynamically, said that its team ‘are proud to share their knowledge with visitors’.

One of the more expensive visitor programmes available includes the ‘apprentice expert’ vertical tasting of four vintages, at €60 per person.

For €180, there is a tasting lunch with matching wines, in partnership with Michelin starred restaurant Darroze. Bookings for all visits can be made at visite@chateau-climens.fr.

Bordeaux wine tourism

In 2015, the French foreign minister said wine tourism across the country needed more backing.

This summer, the Bordeaux Cité du Vin opened, dubbed as a wine theme park and built at a cost of €80 million.
