DWWA 2011: Top 5 best value

If you're looking for a bargain, there's certainly value to be had if you look to Portugal and Argentina, say Decanter's expert judges.

At just £5.98, a Portuguese blend of Shiraz and the little known variety, Trincadeira, has emerged as the best value wine in the 2011 Decanter World Wine Awards .

Produced by the Alentejano’s Tagus Creek, it has become the second biggest selling Portuguese brand in the UK after Mateus rosé, according to its producers.

Costing just a penny more, Etchart’s Privado Torrontés 2010, from the most northerly Argentinean wine region of Salta is also one of the competition’s best value for money wines. The highly aromatic wine is a love it or hate it style but at just £5.99, it’s definitely worth a try.

The Argentinians continue to make a big impression with their value for money offerings.

Both Argento’s Bonarda 2010, and Viñalba’s Cabernet Merlot 2009 from the most southerly wine making region of Patagonia, make it into out top five value for money gold winners at just £6.99 and £8.99 respectively.
