Amongst other wines offered this week by Unique Wine Auctions is a 3 bottle case of Domaine de la Romanee Conti, Echezeaux, 2004. Andrew Cullimore, the auction house’s director, commented ‘This is a historic moment for us to offer wines from Domaine de la Romanee Conti, even more so as we are offering them in an original 3 bottle wooden case direct from the official UK importer. DRC are the most respected wine estate in Burgundy if not the world, it is truly a pleasure to offer these wines from the Domaine to our members.’ The auction will run from 9pm Tuesday 23rd until 9pm on Wednesday 31st August, bids cost £5 each for the case valued at over £1500.00
Winning bidder, Marc Allen, said, “This is a great site that can put fantastic wines into the hands of people who might never have dreamt of having the chance to drink them. It’s easy to use and the variety of top-end wines seems to be getting bigger as the site grows. I’d recommend any lover of good wine who feels priced out of the current fine wine market, to give this a go.”

The phenomenon that is Unique Wine Auctions continues to go from strength to strength with more wines than ever being sold for the ‘lowest unique bid’. Recent auction results include bottles of Tignanello 1990 and Domaine A. Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin 2007 that sold for 27p and 55p respectively, a bottle of Champagne Cristal 2002 sold for 21p and a bottle of Chateau Margaux 2007 sold for just 1p.
Unique Wine Auctions, which uses a type of auction called ´lowest unique bid´, has been hugely successful over the past few months selling more than 40 lots of fine wine for unbelievably low prices.
The auction website works by charging participants for each bid that they make and then selling the item to the bidder, who at the end of the auction has placed the lowest unduplicated bid.
Even though the auction is blind the concept is not based on luck, with the most successful bidders formulating strategies to beat their competitors. ´Most of those who win are willing to risk a certain amount of money in the pursuit of the bottle of wine they are after, however in every instance so far, the winner´s outlay on bidding has been far less than the actual value of the item.´ Mr. Cullimore pointed out.
As for the coming weeks Mr. Cullimore provided some details as to what wines will be offered, ´We have offered many bottles of Bordeaux since we started and recently we have offered a more diverse range of wines from Burgundy and Tuscany. We would like to continue this as well as offering the Bordeaux wines that have been so successful. We really would like to continue to offer the world’s most exclusive names in wine on our site’
