Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Dumb nose, closed but ripe and oaky. Medium-full, quite ripe in fruit, but dominated by a very firm, oak dry tannin; a chewy texture framing pinching the pleasure here, making for an overly astringent wine for the available fruit – pity! Good fruit length, but just too tannic for its own good! Needs time.

Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Deep, bright young colour with purple rim. Nicely concentrated red and black fruits on the nose, good firm fruit and good vineyard expression, good vigour and structure for Volnay and if a bit four-square now, there is very good depth of fruit for the future.

Pronounced, volatile nose with lots of oak’ some red cherry fruit underneath. A little mean on the palate, with hard acidity and firm tannins dominating, but there is a good depth of fruit underneath and a long juicy finish.
