Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Fresh, restrained nose; medium-full, firmly tannic, crisp in acidity; tannin and acidity dominate the limited fruit – very little 1er Cru complexity, fruit seems barely ripe and leaves an overall lean and mean impression, finishing fairly short and edgy, with the new wood drying the limited fruit. Certainly needs time.

Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Good colour, some maturity. Attractively earthy red fruits on the nose, good fruit on the palate, still a little green, but good depth and will open up in the mid-term.

Fresh red fruit but also leather. Fine red ripe fruit, and present, medium tannins, with a hint of green. Acidity a little pointed. Vibrant, slightly oaky finish. Unripeness on mid-palate makes it thin, but the fruit density is there.
