Alun Griffiths MW joins the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2025 as the new Joint Regional Chair of Bordeaux, bringing decades of experience as a longstanding DWWA judge. A Master of Wine since 1991, Alun achieved the title on his first attempt, earning the Madame Bollinger Medal for outstanding blind tasting.

With over 35 years of experience, his career highlights include senior roles at Fortnum & Mason and Harrods, where he boosted wine sales and refined selections. As Wine Director at Berry Bros. & Rudd, he expanded the business globally, introduced customer wine education, and grew turnover from £8 million to £196 million.

In 2013, Alun took his expertise to China, building Vats Liquor’s wine division and establishing fine wine in the market through a curated portfolio and educational programs. Today, he is Non-Executive Chairman of Thorman Hunt & Co Ltd, serves as a director at First Choice Wines, and co-founded The Old Vine Conference, a non-profit dedicated to preserving historic vineyards.
