Paul Henry, formerly head of marketing at the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation (AWBC), has joined wine industry research firm Wine Intelligence as associate director.
Henry was until recently general manager of market development for the AWBC in Adelaide.
British-born Henry will remain in Australia, where he has been posted since 2005. Before that, he was UK & Ireland director for Wine Australia, the AWBC’s marketing arm.
Wine Intelligence said he would focus on expanding opportunities for the company in the Asia Pacific region and on developing global brand strategies for wine.
Based in Adelaide, Henry will work closely with Melbourne-based Wine Intelligence country manager Stephanie Duboudin, and with China specialist Jenny Li.
He will also continue to manage his own communications consultancy Winehero.
Henry’s move comes at a pivotal time for the Australian wine industry which is facing hard decisions about whether the country’s message should be one of wine that appeals to the masses or on more individual, terroir-driven attributes.
