Christie’s has appointed a new head of wine for Asia in a bid to cement its position in the region.
The new appointment, Charles Curtis MW, has been head North American wine sales at Christie’s since 2008.
Christie’s international wine department said in a statement the move ‘further strengthens Christie’s leadership position in Asia’.
Curtis, who will be based in Hong Kong, will ‘act as a primary business-getter for the department in Asia and serve as a valuable resource to the region’s growing community of wine collectors, investors, and consignors’, Christie’s said.
‘This burgeoning market is the epicenter of today’s trade in fine and rare wine,’ Curtis said, ‘and Christie’s establishment of a full department at this sale location positions us to continue to lead this trade in the decades to come.
Christie’s next major New York and Hong Kong sales are November 12-13 and November 26-27, respectively.
