The micro-blogging site Twitter has launched a new charity wine brand, in collaboration with custom winemakers Crushpad.
Described by Twitter founders Ev Williams and Biz Stone as their first ‘Corporate Social Innovation’, they have made two wines together in support of Room to Read to help children be educated in the developing world.
Bottled under the name Fledgling Wine, it has a twitter page and a website where followers can check on the wines’ development.
Every case sold will provide around 60 local language books to children in developing regions of the world.
Stephen Bolger of Crushpad Bordeaux told decanter.com, ‘Have fun. Make wine. Do good. Not a bad combination.’
Crushpad will provide the winemaking facility for the project, helping to create two wines – Pinot Noir and Chardonnay – from grapes harvested in Napa this autumn.
