UK wine retailer Majestic has reduced its minimum in-store purchase to six bottles after a successful trial over the past year.
The company announced the roll-out of the new initiative to all of its 150 stores from 1 September, claiming that the trial in several stores around the UK had prompted ‘very positive’ customer feedback.
But the 12-bottle minimum purchase remains for those ordering online, it added.
‘Reducing the minimum purchase makes Majestic even more accessible to both current and new customers,’ said Majestic, with company chief executive Steve Lewis adding that he was ‘very enthusiastic’ about the idea.
Majestic’s profits for the year to the end of March were more than halved to £7.4m, with like-for-like sales falling 2.7%.
The company has been impacted by declining corporate sales, as well as a downbeat performance from its stores in northern France, which were hit by the strong euro.
