The suffix is no coincidence, for Château La Tour Figeac once formed part of the great Figeac estate. It came into being when, in 1879, a 37ha plot was sold to a Monsieur Corbière, who soon after divided his acquisiton in two. He sold off what has today become Château La Tour du Pin Figeac but kept La Tour Figeac for himself. More recently, in the 1990s, the estate was purchased by the Rettenmaier family, wealthy German industralists, and it is their son Otto Maximilian who runs the Château today. About 25% of the vineyard, which borders Pomerol, shares the same prized gravelly soils as those of the great Chval Blanc.
