History:
Grand-Pontet has truly ancient beginnings, dating back to around 1415 when army captain d’Estien was captivated by the area – on the limestone plateau north-east of the town – and began growing vines there. In the early 1900s, the estate came into the ownership of Gabriel Combrouze, mayor of saint-Emilion and member of Parliament from 1906-1924. From 1965, it was owned by wine brand Barton & Guestier, then bought by Gérard and Dominique Bécot (of Château Beau-Séjour-Bécot) in 1980. The estate has seen a return to more a traditional approach to winemaking under new management installed in 2000.
