History:
The château at Grand Mayne (‘fine manor’) dates from the end of the 15th century, and by the late 1600s belonged to the prominent Laveau family. It remained in the hands of the Laveaus for over two centuries, and by 1836 had grown to 288 hectares. After the Laveau empire collapsed, and after a long series of different owners, corrézien négociant Jean Nony bought the estate in 1934. Today, Nony’s daughter-in-law Marie Françoise runs a considerably smaller Grand-Mayne with her sons Damien and Jean Antoine.
