History:
During the Middle Ages, La Tour Haut-Brion formed part of the La Tour Rostaing domain, where by the 1500s the Rostaing family was already producing high quality wine. By the mid-18th century, it belonged to Guillaume Joseph Saige (his son became a mayor of Bordeaux) and by the 19th century to the Cayrou brothers who appended Haut-Brion to its name. Then, in 1935, the estate was bequeathed to the owners of neighbouring La Missison Haut-Brion, the Woltner family, by the widow of the then owner Victor Cousteau. La Tour Haut-Brion’s ever-changing ownership didn’t stop there: in 1983 it was purchased by Domaine Clarence Dillon.
