From a producer of consistently good wines, this has plenty of ripe fruit but is fresh and elegant, too. Strawberry-tinged red fruit and elegant use of oak from the backbone of the palate, that also shows good intensity, some juicy plum notes and a long finish.

Joseph Drouhin, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Feusselottes 2005
The Drouhins need no introduction for there are fewer more famous Burgundian names. This elegant wine is blessed with pure, red berry nuances of some depth and concentration. It’s well structured with soft tannins and a hint of creamy oak on the long finish.

Nicolas Potel, Chambolle Musigny, 1er Cru Greunchers 2007
Rather showy and full of youth just currently, this boasts an extremely inviting texture to it and a nice bit of grip. The finish is poised and savoury which counters the attack of vibrant, perfumed brambly fruit.

Evocative of freshly turned earth and clay, this is blessed with highly perfumed, pure fruit and sits very nicely in the mouth, with pleasing evolution on the palate despite its adolescence.

Very focussed yet still fleshy with leathery undertones and hints of game pie. Very youthful and fresh and should be even more desirable in one to two years time.

Domaine du Comte Armand, Volnay 2007
A very good villages Volnay, showcasing a beautiful purity of fruit with aromas of cherry and strawberry. The palate is similarly impressive with elegant complexity and fine tannins. This is a wine with a lot of charm.

Domaine des Croix, Beaune 2007
This is a blend of 3 different vineyards in Beaune; the wine displays elegant red fruit with notes of raspberry. Fine structure on the palate with natural acidity and good purity of fruit equals a very good value wine to be enjoyed now or over the next few years.

Domaine Robert Arnoux, Chambolle Musigny 2007
The house of Arnoux was founded in 1858. Today, it is certainly one of the producers to name check. This Chambolle is a vibrant, vital wine with a nose of cherry cake and lightly spiced brambly fruit. It is a slick effort with a fluid palate of pure and pretty fruit, plus further nuances that mirror the nose.

Domaine David Clark, Côte de Nuits Villages 2007
No surprises that there is indeed an Englishman at the helm of this small property in the Côte de Nuits. His Villages is a vibrant, attractive wine, with brambly red fruits decorating the harmonious, well balanced palate.

Domaine Alain Michelot, Nuits-St-Georges, 1er Cru Chaignots 2007
Another highly approachable Nuits-St-Georges – although at the higher, Premier Cru level – this is a generous wine, with soft, relatively lush fruit on show and a velvety, broad texture. However, this clearly isn’t simply an overt, hollow showpiece, but something certainly more complex and full of potential.
