Tasting: Bierzo Mencia

Still looking youthful, this is a savoury and satisfying mouthful of wine. Fresh and vibrant black fruit character balanced by generous use of US oak. Quite successful overall.

Intense toasty and smoky notes over restrained berry fruit. Lovely fruit in mouth, a bit rustic but original, suave, pleasurable. Nice open finish, dominated by the ripe fruit.

Bold, smoky aromatics, American oak dominates. Again on the palate, oak dominates and sweetens the good underlying base of ripe fruit. Good grip of tannin.
