International standards in wine education and certification programmes for wine educators were discussed at the inaugural conference of the newly created European Academy of Wine Education, held in Austria at the end of last month.
International wine education issues prompted 40 educators from 16 countries to meet in Austria to set up a network amongst educators from all over Europe.
‘There is a need to define standards of wine education. More and more academic wine courses are being certified, and there’s a need for accreditation. Some of us believe this will spread to the non-academic world. We may need to get providers certified,’ Norway’s Arne Ronold MW said
Dr Josef Schuler MW, director of the Austrian Wine Academy, said, ‘the topic of wine education is increasingly important in the world of wine. Outside of academia, the international link and perspective in the field of wine education is often missing.’
