A California wine company is producing a range of wines inspired by Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Bearing a flaming skull on its label, 2004 V-Twin Zin is the first bottling for Santa Rosa-based V-Twin Wines plans to release several more Harley-themed varietals – including River Run Chardonnay, Poker Run Cabernet and Redwood Run Zinfandel.
‘The motorcycle lifestyle is all about freedom, about enjoying life and enjoying your friends,’ said brand manager Scott Del Fava, describing the changing demographic of Harley enthusiasts who don’t necessarily embrace the erstwhile outlaw biker lifestyle.
‘Most bikers are now in their 40s and 50s, with steady careers and families. What they share is a love of the finer things in life, and an interest in good food, good times, and of course, good wine.’
The wine was dreamed up by a group of friends over a meal at the Harley-Davidson café in Las Vegas, and seeks to eschew the Easy Rider image, appealing instead to a kinder, gentler hog rider who quenches his thirst with a glass of rosé.
‘Everyone who rides a Harley is a little bit of a hard-ass,’ said Del Fava. ‘But that doesn’t mean we drink cheap wine.’
