Half a dozen more Bordeaux chateaux have released their 2004 prices, confirming the trend to come down from 2003 levels.
Second growth Chateau Gruaud Larose and Cru Bourgeois ‘exceptionnel’ Chasse-Spleen have come out at £208 (€303) and £123 (€180) respectively, per case.
Both prices are lower than those charged in 2003 – if not by a large margin.
Other chateaux to release are Citran (£74), Croix de Labrie (£210), Ferriere (£135), Haut Bages Liberal (£135), La Gurgue (£92) and Sarget de Gruaud Larose (£81), which is the second wine of Gruaud Larose.
Steven Spurrier, Decanter’s consultant editor gave Gruaud four stars (18 points) and described it as ‘smooth and ripe, quite earthy and tannic, a big wine with good natural concentration and a good future.’
Of Chasse-Spleen (four stars, 17 points) he said, ‘Fine deep colour, very bright and positive aroma of crushed berry fruit, lovely ripeness, slightly smoky fruit, a really elegant wine, with charm and length.’
Full reviews of over 400 Bordeaux chateaux will be published on decanter.com this week.
