The Zagat Survey published its first-ever review of Shanghai restaurants earlier this week. Wine-oriented visitors will find in it 11 ‘winning wine lists.’
In releasing the small 78-page guide, Tim and Nina Zagat said, ‘Shanghai has leaped beyond simple Chinese restaurants to offer some of the world’s most creative and diverse cuisine.’
Their guide (US$5.95) singles out the wine cards of these restaurants: AD Domus, Cucina, Danieli’s, The Grill, Jean Georges, Laris, M on the Bund, Palladio, T8, Va Bene and the Zin Wine Bar/Grill.
The paperback, which lacks the heft of the London and Paris guides, covers 247 restaurants and 32 hotels in Shanghai and environs, all rated and reviewed by 1,773 restaurant visitors and travelers.
M on the Bund (the waterfront), Jean Georges and T8 are listed, respectively, as the city’s first, second and third ‘most popular’ restaurants. Jean Georges, Palladio, The Grill, Laris, T8 and Danieli’s are placed in the ‘top food’ category.
The guide observes that the Zin Wine Bar refers, of course, to zinfandel and that the establishment has ‘one of Shanghai’s few sommeliers.’
