For over 200 years, the estate was in the possession of the Chatonnet family, who in 1863 took the vineyard to its present size by buying five hectares of choice vines at the top of the plateau slope from nearby Château Fonplégade. In 1952, it passed to Jean-Pierre Moueix, who undertook extensive and much needed restoration and replanting. Today, the estate is owned by Jean-Pierre’s grandson Edouard. Château Magdelaine has the highest percentage of Melot of all Saint-Emilion’s 1er Grands Crus Classés.
