    RED WINE of the week

Infinitus, Tempranillo, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon, Spain 2007 No lofty pretensions, and all the better for it. A slick, juicy quaffer, with soft tannins and vibrant redcurrant notes with some hints of chocolate. Has a freshness which counters that Spanish richness and cements the wine's easy-drinking personality. Drink 2008. £6.49 Albert Wine Company, Esher (01372 462 299), Berkmann Wine Cellars, London N7 (020 7609 4711), The Vineyard, Dorking (01306 876 828), White Vin Man, Sissinghurst (01580 712 826)

    WHITE WINE of the week

Le Chai au Quai, The Unmentionables - GG, France 2007 An unusual delight produced from Grenache Gris, with plenty of lifted, summer garden aromas. Nutty, full bodied and a little tannic (clear food matching potential), a slightly oily texture and a long, complex finish with sprinklings of spice. Drink 2008-10. £9.16 Laithwaites (0870 444 8383)
