Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie wine sells out in hours

The first 1,000 cases of wine produced by Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were snapped up within hours of going on sale on the internet.

BIn the pink: Miraval sold out in five hours

In all, some 6,000 bottles of Miraval 2012 rosé – made for the couple by the Perrin family and priced at €105 per half-dozen – were sold in just five hours on Thursday morning.

The back label of the wine, which has the appellation Côtes de Provence, says: ‘Mis en bouteille par Jolie-Pitt & Perrin.’

According to the wine’s website, orders for the 2012 vintage are now closed, although a further 100,000 bottles have been sold to restaurants and wine merchants.

The 60-hectare Jolie-Pitt vineyard, part of the Château Miraval estate in Provence which the film star pair bought for a reputed €40m in 2008, also produces red and white wines.

The news comes a month after Decanter.com revealed that the couple had enlisted the help of Château Beaucastel owners, the Perrin family, to produce and market the wines of Miraval, in Correns.

Marc Perrin told Decanter.com at the time that ‘striving for quality’ was the most important thing for the celebrity couple, who were present during blending sessions for the wine.

‘The terroir, the freshness that comes from the altitude, and the exposition of the vines are all incredible,’ he added.

Work is continuing in the Miraval vineyards, with soil expert Claude Bourguignon likely to conduct a full geological survey, and some field grafting of grapes including Mourvèdre to add complexity to the current Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah blend.
