1993 vintage guide for Oregon Pinot Noir

Oregon 1993: Drink now

A cool summer and long, warm autumn helped produce excellent Pinot Noir with great balance and finesse

Weather Conditions

Spring weather was both cool and wet, with fairly heavy precipitation in April. Cool conditions continued on well into May and early June. Bud-break was late, but the crop load was slightly above normal. From mid-July through August the weather was mild, and once again growers were thinning clusters in anticipation of a late harvest. The long awaited warm spell finally appeared in early September, and this late summer weather extended into November. The growing
season continued into November and was one of the latest but also one of the longest on record. It was the latest ever in the Willlamette Valley. Quality was high, with deep color and ripe fruit the norm.
