A good vintage in the Rhine. Mosel wines were less impressive
Weather Conditions
The weather was kind in spring but the summer was a mixture of sun, rain and humidity, which created some problems for the growers. Great heat in the day and showers at night in August caused fungus to spread in the vineyards; this required the greatest skill and dedication of the grower to control. The vintage began at the beginning of October with mostly healthy grapes, which allowed excellent Kabinetts to be made, until the 20th October, when ten days of rain hit both quantity and quality. However, as so often, those estates which waited were rewarded with great Ausleses and above.

This was a great vintage for all the classic regions: Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Nahe
Best Producers
The outstanding estates were: Fritz Haag, Maximin Grunhaus, Karthauserhof (Mosel/Saar/Ruwer); Donnhoff (Nahe); Franz Kunstler, Dr. Weil (Rheingau); Gunderloch (Rheinhessen); Joseph Biffar, Muller-Catoir (Pfalz) . A very fine Eiswein year.
