Weather Conditions

Weather conditions for this year varied very little from the norm. It was generally regarded as a dryish year, with good solar radiation available in most important wine regions. Uruguay had rainfall in the northern regions during harvest time, and it rained in Brazil, as always.

Best Appellations

Sauvignon Blanc was the hot new variety in Chile, especially in Casablanca. In Argentina, Bernardo Weinert was showing that low yields could make concentrated wines. Nicolas Catena was already consolidating his hold on 25 per cent of all of Argentina’s quality vineyards.

Best Producers

Red wine predominates here, and of those it is the Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends that have survived the best. Concha y Toro, Santa Rita, Cousiño Macul stand out in Chile. Weinert and Catena (Zapata) in Argentina.
