The countdown is underway and, on 17th September 2016, one of international oenotourism’s most outstanding destinations will open its doors, revealing to thousands of visitors, lovers of quality wines, the outstanding jewels that it has to offer.

This is the Haro Station Wine Experience (La Rioja), the home of seven of Spain’s most emblematic wineries: R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia; Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE); Bodega Gómez Cruzado; La Rioja Alta, S.A.; Bodegas Bilbaínas; Muga; and RODA.

Everyone that comes to this fantastic Rioja wine festival is guaranteed a marvellous experience, in which these seven wineries welcome fans and wine-tourists from around the world, showing off their installations of unbeatable cultural and historical character. And, of course, also sharing the treasures of their cellars, internationally acknowledged and prized wines, accompanied by the best of local cuisine, music and other activities.

This place, considered the cradle of Rioja wines, began to emerge in the second half of the 19th century, as a consequence of the replacement of traditional horse-drawn wine transport by the “new” railways. For many reasons there is no doubt that this is a unique scenario, in particular because it is the world’s largest concentration of prestigious, centuries-old wineries, all within a stone’s throw of each other and, in architectural terms, also because it offers a combination of historical 19th century buildings, along with more avant-garde designs, by architects such as Zaha Hadid or Eiffel, in a privileged setting, surrounded by their historical vineyards. A true treasure to discover… and to enjoy!

Following the success of the first edition, which welcomed over 4,500 visitors and was awarded the Bilbao/Rioja Best of Wine Tourism 2015 Prize, tickets have now gone on sale for this second event, both at the official website and at Entradium.com. For €50 (early-bird price €40) you can taste up to 14 magnificent wines, accompanied by a selection of the best Rioja “tapas”, visit the seven wineries and participate in a wide range of activities associated with the world of wine.

In order to assist with visits from all over the world, a series of travel packages have been put together, including travel and accommodation, along with tickets for the event plus insurance cover.

This is an encounter promoted by the Asociación del Barrio de la Estación, a group formed by the district’s various wineries, the purpose of which is to spread the name of a location that has become an international reference in the world of wine. Each year, over 100.000 visitors enjoy their historical wine-making tradition through the wide range of visits and wine tourism activities on offer throughout the year, savouring the Barrio de la Estación (Station District) and Rioja’s true treasure: it’s wines.
