Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Pure, fresh, fragrant red fruit nose; fine textured, complex, complete wine with a firm tannic structure and clearly needing plenty of time, but long and minerally and classy across the palate, and with excellent length to finish. Clear 1er Cru complexity.

Good colour, maturity on rim. Fine expression of red summer fruits, shows a little greenness on the palate, but the structure and depth are there to see it through.

Forward, ripe cassis fruit, mirrored on palate, but with an unappealing hardness in mid-palate. Very present, medium tannins which drive through to the drying finish.
