Domaine Jean Foillard, Côte de Py, Morgon 2015
Foillard is another of the gang of four credited with kickstarting a return to traditional methods and the natural wine movement in Beaujolais. The Côte de Py slope is located on the long-extinct volcano of Mont Brouilly and considered to be the best site in Morgon, where Foillard’s 60 year old vines produce very low yields of Gamay. The resulting wine has a cherry and wild herb nose, and a smooth, full and juicy palate of intense cranberry, redcurrant and wild raspberry, demonstrating impeccable purity. Some subtle spiciness is carried by a high acidity on the long finish. Gorgeous.
