Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Rich in youthful fruit to smell; generous fruit within a very firmly tannic frame. Chewy for Volnay, even as a Santenots – muscular style. Moderate complexity, good light length; fairly chewy overall and certainly needing time.

Good deep colour, some maturity on rim. Quite robust autumn berry fruits on the nose and quite robust flavours on the palate. A big wine, on the edge of being a bit stewed but has vigorous fruit and grip, but lacks the true elegance of Volnay.

Appealing, red fruit nose. Generous, sweet fruit in mouth with good density and fine texture, some minerality, some wood, and fine tannins on long finish.
