Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Light, fresh, fragrant nose; elegantly balanced, Volnay style wine, sweet cored within a fine, firm tannin; ripe fruited, long and complex, with a clear 1er Cru complexity, and fine, scented length. Long term, but very good.

Quite good colour, mature rim. Fine, sweet summer berries on the nose and good summer fruits on the palate. Has freshness, but still a little greenness there and this might dominate as the wine ages.

Muted, ripe red fruit nose, slightly stewed, with some woody aromas. Thick, juicy fruit in mid-palate, smoothed out by new wood. Medium, fine tannin and a good finish marred by drying oak tannins.
