Tasting: Saint Joseph 2010

Succulent blackberry and blueberry nose, vibrant and stimulating. Rich, super-ripe, and juicy, but marred by a slight jamminess. The acidity compensates in part, but there is a lingering sweetness that could be fatiguing with time. International-style and could as easily be from Sonoma or Stellenbosch. Moderate length.

Ripe, hedonistic and chewy, this is a savoury and ripe example with fine tannins, an impressive mouth-feel and a long, rich finish.

Waves of blackberry fill the bouquet, is thorough and promising, has a definite note of intensity. The palate features oily textured black fruits, is slightly high octane and I note the degree of 14, ahead of many others. There is a final crescendo of blackberry fruit, and a woodsy note, a power hum. The tannins need two years to settle better. Modern, big wine.
