Asda is known to put good value at the top of its list – but along with the low price tags, the supermarket also offers a range of wine styles from around the globe.
Receiving an impressive array of medals at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), below is a selection of some of the most notable performers from Asda to try.
From the competition’s 2024 results, it is clear Asda‘s own-label really does provide consistent quality and reliability. The brand’s top scorer was Extra Special Malbec 2021 from Argentina’s Uco Valley – with its rich aromas of blackberry, sweet tobacco and vanilla, this £12 bottle delighted the judges earning it 94 points.
Asda’s Portuguese range is especially worthy of note, winning three Silver medals this year: Extra Special Dão 2021 achieved 93 points for its delicious crunchy red fruit aromas and balsamic hints; and the lively, floral and sour cherry-infused Extra Special Douro 2022 was also awarded 93 points, both wines representing stunning value at £7.50 each!
The charming Extra Special Late Bottled Vintage Port 2017 gained 92 points for its layers of minty black fruit, cocoa and fresh herbs and is a steal at £13.50.

Asda scooped an impressive total of 21 Silver medals at this year’s competition, from a range of countries and wine styles. From Italy and Spain to New World countries such as Argentina and Australia, the Asda Extra Special range had a particularly strong showing with 14 wines awarded in the category, seven of them costing £10 per bottle or less.
A total of six wines from France received Silver medals, including the inviting Extra Special Pouilly-Fumé 2022 from the Loire. Competitively priced at £16 a bottle, this classic style scored 93 points for its gorgeous sea-shell mineral character and fresh mango tang.
From South Africa, Asda, Nice Drop of Pinotage, Western Cape 2023 (£4.25) is another wine to look out for, scoring 91 points for its zesty acidity and raspberry, cranberry and oak spice perfume.
More Silver wins from Italian regions including Lugana, Tuscany and Veneto made the list, as well as wines from Austria and Spain.
