The Sun newspaper releases wine

British tabloid newspaper The Sun has launched a wine in collaboration with major UK supermarket Asda.

Vin du Soleil, a blend of Vermentino and Viognier, is a collaboration between the red top’s resident wine writer Brian Moore and Asda’s chief wine buyer Philippa Carr MW.

The pair selected the grapes in May this year from a vineyard belonging to renowned Languedoc producer Skalli in Carcassonne, southern France.

Various blends were sampled at Skalli before they headed back to the Asda tasting room to select the final blend.

‘Vin du Soleil is brave, bold and incredibly drinkable – a glass of fun’, said Moore.’

‘Time and hard work spent with producers and suppliers can deliver interesting and unusual wines for under £5’, added Carr.

The wine features a newsprint label in keeping with its tabloid roots.

Vin du Soliel launches at Asda today, retailing at £4.98.
