History:

Château Angélus didn’t come into being until as late as the early 20th century, when Maurice de Boüard bought a small plot of ancient vines next to his parent’s château, Mazerat, in Saint-Emilion. Since 1980, Maurice’s great-grandson Hubert de Boüard de LaForest and his cousin Jean-Bernard Grenié have been in charge, and it is they who can take credit for the fine reputation the wine enjoys today. The name of the estate comes from the peal of church bells, the angélus, annoucing the devotion. It is said that the vineyard workers here could hear the bells of all three local churches ringing in unison.
