History:
It was Scotsman George Smith who gave Smith Haut Lafitte its triple-barrelled name. He purchased the estate in the 18th century in order to import its already famous wine to England aboard his ships. Yet the Château owes its reputaton to a Bordeaux mayor, M. Duffour-Dubergier, who inherited the property from his mother in 1842 and who was committed into transforming the vineyard into a grand cru. Since 1990, Smith Haut Lafitte has been owned by the enterprising couple Daniel and Florence Cathiard.
