Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie wine targeted by counterfeiters

The Perrin family, who produces Provence rose Miraval in tandem with the Jolie-Pitts, has changed the bottle design in a bid to combat fraudsters in China.

The joint venture between Brad and Angelina Jolie-Pitt, and the Perrin family of Chateau Beaucastel in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, was first announced in February 2013, with the first bottles of the 2012 vintage selling out within hours. A similar reception for the 2013 vintage was seen last year, with waiting lists set up to receive restricted amounts of the 200,000 bottle production.

This year, the wine – a blend of Grenanche, Carignan, Syrah and Rolle – comes with anti-counterfeit protection in the form of an engraved hallmark set into the foot of the glass bottle, something that was deemed necessary as the wine has already become a target of forgers.

Winemaker Marc Perrin told decanter.com, ‘We are already seeing evidence of faked bottles being produced and distributed in China, so we have moved swiftly to counter it.’
