Geordie joined the Decanter team at the beginning of 2024 as senior sub-editor. Born and raised in Australia (where he developed a taste for Hunter Valley Semillons, Clare Valley Rieslings and Coonawarra Cabernets), he originally trained as a biologist before moving into publishing. After moving to the UK in 2002, he started working on Geographical, the magazine of the Royal Geographical Society, first as deputy editor and then as editor. Most recently he has been freelancing, including a stint writing books on everything from the Silk Road to physical geography for a London publisher.
