John Szabo was the first Canadian to earn the Master Sommelier title, in 2004, and holds the WSET Diploma with honours. He’s principal critic for WineAlign.com, and co-founder and curator-in-chief of the Barrel Hunter Club. The author of 'Volcanic Wines: Salt Grit and Power', John is also co-founder of Volcanic Wines International, an annual conference in New York City celebrating volcanic wines worldwide. He co-hosts the Wine Thieves podcast and contributes frequently to many Canadian and international trade and consumer publications.
John made wine in Eger, Hungary, between 2004 and 2017. When he’s not travelling, tasting or writing, you’ll find him tending to his own regenerative, organic field-blend vineyard in Prince Edward County, Ontario.
