Decanter talks exclusively to Jean Jacques Bonnie, owner and manager of Château Malartic-Lagravière, which will be showcasing its wines at the first Decanter Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter, which takes place at The Ritz Carlton in Shanghai on Saturday 29th November.
For you personally, what is going to be the most exciting aspect of the Decanter Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter on the 29th November?
To see how consumers react to our wines. Also, to get a sense of the market and the taste of our current and future consumers.
What wines and vintages will you be showing in Shanghai?
Malartic red 2009 and 2010
Malartic white 2010
Comte de Malartic (a second label of the Château) red 2011 and 2010
Comte de Malartic white 2010
Describe the style of your wines in three words?
Purity, elegance and racy.
Name one Chinese dish and one Western dish to match one (or more) of the the wines you are pouring in Shanghai on Saturday?
With the Malartic red 2009, Beijing duck – beef with mushrooms sauce
For the white 2010, I would go for some pan-seared scallops (both Chinese or western style!)
What is the best piece of wine advice you have ever been given?
Patience and humility; to learn to be respectful of the nature.
How would you describe Shanghai in one sentence?
Shanghai is a place of fantastic energy and perpetual change!
