Red Rhone 1993: Drink soon
The reds were for the most part hard and thin, but the vintage was slightly better in the south
Weather Conditions
Once again a fine summer in the northern Rhône was wrecked by sopping wet weather, which descended on 25 September, shortly before hvresting, provoking an attack of mildew and rot. Severe selection was essential.
Best Appellations
Northern Rhone: reds were for the most part hard and thin. The vintage was slightly better in the south, with decent reds and whites from the Côtes du Rhône. Châteauneuf fared better than in 1991 or 1992, but the wines were good rather than great.
Best Producers
Few producers managed to produce better than adequate wines.
