China’s interest in Bordeaux has come a long way since Peter Kwok bought Chateau Haut-Brisson in 1997. As Kwok himself told DecanterChina.com in 2012, ‘I had no idea that 15 years later I would have quite so many Chinese neighbours’.

The charts below show that Chinese investors’ interest in Bordeaux wine estates really took off in 2011, when 21 deals were completed, and it remains the year to beat. Figures in the charts below were provided to by the Bordeaux wine bureau, CIVB.
