Gourmandises

Tasting: Saint Joseph 2010
Lush plum and menthol nose. Fresh and sprightly, has clarity of fruit and vigour as well as sufficient tannic grip to give some structure. There’s admirable purity here which makes up for the lack of depth, and fine acidity gives it drive and length. Needs more time to harmonise. Good length.

Tasting: Saint Joseph 2010
Youthful of hue and aroma, this example has a somewhat unformed nose, its black fruit persona well concealed. The palate betrays an oaky upbringing with assertive tannins in the ascendant at the moment, but the latent fruit and underpinning acidity will foster a pleasing if gradual evolution.

Tasting: Saint Joseph 2010
The bouquet is slowly making its way – has a sleek note of black cherry, and a sure surround of content with a hint of earthiness. This could develop well. The attack is assertive, almost flashy, has a live run of blackberry, even if it lacks stuffing in places. The finish is an oily raspberry, but the fruit wavers somewhat.
