Burdizzo, Chianti Riserva 2013
Riserva level Chianti must spend additional time in oak compared to the standard wine, which has given this simple yet effective example a vanilla frame for the fruit. This is not a Classico, so the grapes have come from across the various Chianti sub-zones, denouncing any claims to terroir. What you do get, though, is lovely cedar-tinged cherry fruit with black pepper spice and some tannic grip. More red fruit accompanies vanilla on the finish. Great value.
